A well earned draw for Maldon and Tiptree FC

Maldon and Tiptree welcomed Writtle Minors to The Wallace Binder Stadium looking to continue their fine form and stretch their unbeaten run.

The first attack of the game saw Jence and Nathan link up well on the right which saw the ball well pulled back to Leo who almost connected too well and blazed it over the bar from 18 yards out.

Maldon and Tiptree FC would see some good possession and begun to string some good passes together, with their confidence growing each week, they moved swiftly down the right with Jence winning the throw which Leo took to find Finn unmarked at the front post only to find the angle too tight and it gets shoot over.

Some more good work from Maldon was broken up by Writtle who caught them on a break down the middle ending with Writtle taking a shot which was parried by Daniel, but he managed to get back up well and save the rebound.

The first half would continue with Maldon having the upper hand moving forwards with Finn having a speculative shot from the distance which was well saved by the Writtle keeper. Maldon showed their dominance in midfield with Finn managing to squeeze the ball through to Jence who shot across the keeper to find the net for the first goal of the game. 1 – 0!

Maldon weren’t able to rest on their laurels with Writtle coming straight back at them from the restart moving the ball well and getting in a shot which was saved well by Daniel low down to his right post. Writtle continue to press the home team feeding on a rare stray pass from Maldon and Tiptree FC to find the striker one on one with the Maldon keeper with acres of space only to see Daniel stand strong and protect their slender lead.

The home team stuck to their game plan with some swift passing and slick movement which saw a long throw in from Leo who found Finn once again to strike straight at the keeper, they didn’t stop knocking on the door with a long range shot from Nathan which deflected for a corner taken by Jack who put it on the money to the centre of the penalty area but was defended well by Writtle, only to find Nathan on his own on the corner of the penalty area who hits the side netting. Maldon continue to press knowing that one goal wasn’t going to be enough to win the game and force another corner but doesn't beat the first player, but on the second attempt finds Cayden at the back post with a header just wide after a telling touch from the keeper on the way.

This brought the first change for Maldon with Lui coming on for Cayden to continue the attacking stance for the home team, but they got caught napping and conceded a corner late on in the half which led to a scramble in the box which ending with the ball in the grip of a grateful Daniel on the ground, Maldon came again with the last chance of the half after a pass from Finn deflected to Jence who found Lui on the left wing who swung an inviting cross which was well saved by the visiting keeper at the feet of the advancing Jence.

The second half started with Writtle on the attack and caught Maldon unaware and still in the dugout, Writtle pass it well into the penalty area and take a shot which squeezes between Daniel and the post for Writtle to draw level. 1 – 1!

This saw the second change and Elliott came on for Leo for his last game for Maldon before moving away to Norfolk, it didn’t take long for him to be in the thick of the action with Writtle’s growing confidence due to the early goal which brought a corner forcing the home goalkeeper in to a good save.

Finn then went close bringing the best out of the Writtle goalkeeper again.

Maldon seemed to struggle to take command of the second half as they did in the first, with the game turning very scrappy and neither side taking control.

The game evened out with very few chances for either team but a free kick which was taken by the ever eager Elliott around 20 yards out but ended up being blasted into the wall.

Cayden then came back on replacing Jence, but the game still failed to live up to the first half action despite some great play down the right with Finn, Elliott and Nathan who released Elliott who thrashed the ball across the box inches wide begging to be finished off. Elliott then came close again after a great cross from Leo which narrowly missed, this would prove to be frustrating for Elliott on his last appearance and was running out of ideas but not energy.

We would see the last action of the game at the wrong end for Maldon and Tiptree FC with Writtle finishing strong on the break but to be thwarted by another good save from Daniel.

Full Time Result: 1 – 1

Man of the Match was Elliott for all his determination and energy, and nearly scoring today.

Maldon and Tiptree Dynamos would like to Wish Nathan (Manager) and Elliott all the best with their move and thanks for all your hard work you have put in with the team.
