Maldon and Tiptree FC face their first defeat

An early start to Mothers Day saw Springfield Reds Visit The Wallace Binder Stadium.

The game kicked off and quickly became end to end with fast flowing football from both teams, however Maldon retained the possession in the early stages. Leo and Nathan from Maldon and Tiptree FC linked well on the right wing with Nathan putting in a cross which found Cayden in the middle, only for it to get stuck under his feet and dragged wide.

Maldon and Tiptree FC managed to keep Springfield to long range shooting from outside the box which the home team seemed to cope well with. Maldon and Tiptree FC continued to press with some good work at a throw in which saw Leo launch it towards the box with an incredible throw finding Nathan’s head who flicked it on to Cayden, who again found himself in space in the middle but the Springfield keeper read it well and slid out to block with his body.

Springfield started to string some good passes together which led to the winger flashing the ball across the home team’s box, only for it to hit the front post and deflect to the striker unmarked at the back post, which ended with him slicing it wide. Springfield’s confidence continued to grow and their midfielder found himself with too much time and space. Maldon’s defence backed away leading to Springfield taking a fierce shot which found a grateful Daniels midriff.

Maldon and Tiptree FC then counter attacked with a quick throw to Finn who played it back to thrower Leo who managed to brilliantly chip it through to Nathan who shot at the goal, but the ball was saved by the away keeper who was starting to get the nickname the Big Friendly Giant (The Maldon supporters were sure that he drove there himself)!

The last action of the half was seen at the wrong end in the perspective of the home team and some quick passes ended with a good shot at goal which was saved by Daniel down to his right. Half time 0-0

The second half started with an early corner for Maldon which would only find the side netting, Springfield then managed to get their feet under the table and were making Maldon work hard at closing down the ball but managed to slip the ball through to the on running Springfield striker who manages to get to the ball first and toe poke it past the oncoming Daniel to make it 1-0 to the away team. Maldon and Tiptree FC huffed and puffed to try to get themselves back in the game which saw Tyler going on a run only to be taken out by a defender who stood his ground just outside the away team’s box. The away team cleared it up to the other end with a strong shot which beat the hand of the home goalkeeper to make it 2-0 to Springfield.

The game would then get quite scrappy which seemed to suit the away team with Maldon not being able to get back into their stride, Springfield continued to press and a great cross from the right found the Maldon and Tiptree striker once again. Maldon found some much needed energy and passed it well out of the back from Jack finding Lui in plenty of space, who played it back into Tyler who shot at goal only for the giant to tip it over the bar.

The game finished with a Springfield corner which was defended well by Leo with his head but headed to a Springfield player who took a great shot, but was tipped over the bar by Daniel in the home goal.

Some good football played by Maldon and Tiptree FC but they couldn’t seem to find the killer instinct in front of goal with the game ending in defeat which is their first in the Spring League.
