The second-generation Tigra may be Corsa based, like the last model to bear the name, but it's a different car altogether. Instead of a coupé, it's now a strict two-seat coupé-convertible with a folding hard top. That gives it a distinct advantage over its two main rivals, as Ford's StreetKa has a fabric roof and the Peugeot 206CC tries to be a four seater (and is a squeeze inside as a result). It's a great looker, well-executed, practical for a convertible, and fun too. Supermini underpinnings mean it won't satisfy those seeking proper sportscar thrills, but it should be justifiably popular all the same.
Behind the Wheel
Tigra is fun to drive because you have the wind in the hair and the knowledge that it looks good, with this fun to drive coupé.
On the Road
Two petrol engines are available from launch, a 1.4 and a 1.8. The 1.4 is adequate for sauntering to the shops or sunny cruising, but if you want any hint of performance then you really need to choose the 1.8 which serves up enough to get somewhere quite quickly.
