Another great game from Maldon and Tiptree Football Club

Another early start would take Maldon and Tiptree the relatively short trip to play Baddow Spartak.

With an illness hit squad the game would be played 6v6 with Nathan, Jack and Louis all missing.

The game kicked off in beautiful sunshine and Baddow didn’t take long to get into their stride with some smart passing which was broken up by Cayden who found Finn down the left only to put a cross in with no one in the middle. Maldon continued to use the extra space on the pitch with Finn making a strong challenge in the middle and then released Lui through the centre who drew a good save from the home goalkeeper. Maldon’s dominance continued with some strong play from Leo battering his way down the right riding two tackles before putting a cross into Lui and god only knows how it stayed out.

The chances kept coming for Maldon with a long throw from Leo who found Finn which drew a fine save from the keeper from an acute angle, the swift passing continued and found Lui on his own through the middle which again was brilliantly saved by the keeper in the home goal.

The first goal of the game would reward Maldon for their hard work with Finn on the left hand side who passed it in to Jence with his back to goal turned on a sixpence on the edge on the box and struck it hard and low leaving the keeper no chance to make it 1-0.

Not to be outdone the home team made changes and attacked down the right which tempted Daniel out and got the cross in to the striker who’s shot was brilliantly cleared off the line from the head of Finn to the relief of the visiting keeper. The resulting corner was swung in and parried out by Daniel which dropped to the feet of the striker, who put it in the goal to draw level. Baddow would take energy from the goal and once again shot from the edge of the box which Leo managed to slice over the bar. Maldon continued with their high energy rate typified by Jence with some trickery and close control taking on the defenders shooting across goal only to go just wide, the first half would draw to an end with Lui testing the keeper from the left with a strike destined for the top corner but for a great save from home keeper. Half time 1-1

Baddow started the second half the stronger and attacked down the left which was cleared by Cayden who found a player outside the box. Unfortunately the ball was struck over the bar. The end to end football continued and with some good work from Finn releasing Lui to shoot at the keeper, who in turn started a good move from the back which made it up to the striker who’s shot at goal squirmed away from Daniel and was pounced on by the striker who slotted it home.

Maldon would draw level from a corner which Finn deservedly scored after all his hard work on the pitch. The home team went closest next with audacious flick from the edge of the box which looped up and hit the crossbar, with some good work on the left with a good turn from Lui to beat the first defender only to be blocked well by the second. Baddow then pressed well down the right and cut inside to curl a left footed shot which Daniel dealt with low to his right.

For the last part of the game it was very open with good football played by both teams but it would be the home team that would take the chance for the winner on the left which was tucked away well. Maldon still had some questions for the home team with Leo in the final seconds shooting low which the keeper saved well to keep it 3-2 to the home team at the final whistle.

A fantastic amount of effort from the Maldon and Tiptree boys but wasn’t to be and were unlucky in the end.

Man of the Match, Finn for his great work all over the pitch.
